Does the Mammotion Yuka Mini 2 500 need a boundary wire?

No. This is one of its key advantages over older robot mower technology. It uses a triple-camera AI vision system combined with an AI chip to map and navigate the lawn without any perimeter wire. You guide it around the area once during setup and it creates its own map. This removes the annual hassle of laying, repairing and resetting boundary wires that owners of older wire-based mowers will be very familiar with.

What area can it mow and how long does the battery last?

The mower is recommended for lawns up to 500m². On a single charge the 4.5Ah removable battery covers approximately 200m². For larger lawns it will automatically return to the charging station when the battery runs low and then resume mowing. So a 500m² lawn would require roughly two and a half charge cycles to complete. The battery is removable which makes replacement straightforward when needed.

Can it handle slopes and uneven ground?

Yes. It handles slopes up to 45% gradient which is equivalent to 24 degrees. This puts it well above many competing models which typically cap out at around 20 - 25%. It uses rear-wheel drive for better traction on inclines. It can also navigate paths as narrow as 55cm which is useful for gardens with tight passages between beds or fences. That said, extremely steep or wet slopes may still present challenges as with any mower.

How does the obstacle detection work?

The mower uses an AI chip that processes 10 trillion operations per second. Combined with high-pixel cameras featuring Global Shutter technology it can recognise and respond to over 300 types of obstacles in real time. This includes static objects like garden furniture and dynamic obstacles such as pets or children moving across the lawn. The Intelligent Visual Fence feature also detects drop-off hazards like steps, pool edges and cliffs automatically without needing any physical barriers.

Can it mow multiple separate lawn areas?

It supports up to 5 zones but there is an important limitation to understand. The zones need to be connected by a physical path the mower can travel through these are called "mowing channels." If your garden has completely separate lawns divided by fences, gates or steps that the mower cannot physically cross, the multi-zone mapping feature will not work as expected. For truly separate areas you can use DropMow mode which allows mowing without a saved map but the map is not retained between sessions. Several customer reviews flag this as a point of frustration so it is worth considering before purchase.

What is DropMow mode and when would I use it?

DropMow is a quick-start mowing mode that requires no prior mapping. You place the mower on the lawn, press the Mow & Start button and it follows an N-shaped pattern based on its current orientation. The map created during this session is temporary and is not saved. It is designed for one-off mowing jobs or for areas that are not part of the main mapped zones. To access it you press and hold the grass button for 5 seconds. Note that some users have found this feature difficult to locate within the app as it sits within the Beta Features section.

What are the cutting height options and how is it adjusted?

Cutting height is adjusted manually using a knob on the machine. It ranges from 20mm to 60mm across 4 positions. This gives a reasonable spread for different grass types and seasonal requirements. The cutting system uses 1 disc with 5 pivot razor blades and a cutting width of 190mm. Spare blades are included in the box. Height adjustment does not require tools it is a straightforward turn of the knob as noted by multiple customers in their reviews.

Does it require assembly and what connectivity does it support?

No assembly is required. It connects via Bluetooth and WLAN as standard. A 4G module is available but sold separately this would allow remote monitoring and control when you are away from your home Wi-Fi network. The mower is managed through the Mammotion app which handles mapping, scheduling, zone management and mowing task customisation. You can set no-go zones, virtual walls and personalised mowing schedules through the app. The mower weighs 10.6kg and measures 41.3cm deep by 28.1cm wide by 52.5cm tall.
